Foróige were looking for a keynote speaker for their Leadership for Life Conference in 2022. Step forward Jordan Lee, Irish international high jump athlete and Paralympian.

The conference, which was launched on August 2, 2022 at NUI Maynooth, brings together young people from the USA, Ukraine, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, South Africa and Ireland to learn how to become leaders in their own lives.

Two hundred and fifty teenagers from around the world gathered to learn crucial life skills such as empathy, decision making, communication skills, critical thinking and team-work.

As part of the week-long conference, the delegates will met inspirational guest speakers, including Yemi Adenuga, an outspoken anti-racism advocate and campaigner and the first black woman to be elected as a public representative in Ireland, Professor Mark Brennan, the UNESCO chair for rural community, leadership and youth development at Pennsylvania State University, and Jordan who got rave reviews from the audience for this keynote address. Jordan ended up the conference with the following line: “Never let other people’s negativity hamper your will to achieve great things”.

Vhi were launching the ‘More Than Running’ campaign which highlights the various health benefits that participating in parkrun can bring to all those who take part. A small number of well known sports personalities were selected as campaign ambassadors, and former professional jockey Nina Carberry was a first past the post choice.

With events in every county in Ireland, parkrun, in partnership with Vhi, takes place each Saturday morning at 9.30 am in more than 100 locations across the country and is free to take part in. Leading by example, Nina put on her running shoes and participated in several park runs across Ireland.

With over 40 years experience in Ireland, the Wellington Eye Clinic is a Consultant delivered clinic, which provides excellence in this high demand area of eye surgery, along with a top-class client service Claire McLaughlin is not only a doctor herself, she has also been involved in international rugby for the Irish women’s rugby team, currently rehabbing a long-term injury, and also works as a rugby pundit with the BBC, so she was the ideal person to work with the Wellington Eye Clinic.

I have worn glasses and contact lenses for over 20 years, and have gotten increasingly frustrated with the discomfort of lenses, and the hassle of wearing glasses. With my work shifts in A&E, and all my training, it meant I could be wearing my contact lenses for 12+ hours, which I knew was not good for the health of my eyes.

Grant Thornton run an excellent all-island community involvement 5km road race, called the GT5K, in conjunction with Athletics Ireland. They have sourced local city ambassadors, the overall race ambassador, and social ambassadors via Sport Endorse over a number of years. Irish international runner Brian Gregan was the Dublin race ambassador and then the overall race ambassador the following year. Rugby player Eimear Considine and GAA football player Boidu Sayeh were social ambassadors, and for the 2022 GT5K, international rugby player James Lowe is a race ambassador.

Just before the 2021 All-Ireland Football final, Tangerine Comms were assisting Specsavers with activation around their GAA sponsorship. A mini-activation campaign was executed where some “little journalists” interviewed a key player from both the Mayo and Tyrone teams (which competed in the final). The players and most of the interviewing panel were sourced via Sport Endorse. A great buzz and lots of excited fans contributed to a successful activation.
