Pringles teams up with Irish Football legend Paul McGrath to tackle men’s mental health this Movember

Wednesday, October 9th, 2024: Irish football legend Paul McGrath has joined forces with Pringles to champion men’s mental health throughout Movember. McGrath will serve as Pringles ambassador for its Movember campaign which is encouraging men to talk about their mental health.

Recognising the importance of having open conversations about mental health, Pringles is going all in this Movember with its iconic Mr. P mascot sporting a QR code moustache on special edition Pringles tubes. The QR code will bring people to the Mo Conversations tool which offers advice for people on how to open a dialogue with men about their mental health. The special edition Pringles tubes were first launched in Ireland in 2023 and resulted in 127,000 scans of the QR code with 85% of respondents saying they would recommend the tool.

Inspired by Movember’s insight that most people find it easier to talk openly when not directly face-to-face, Pringles teamed up with Sam’s Barbers in Dublin for a special event, encouraging men to have conversations in a relaxed, familiar environment, using the Mo Conversations tool to steer those conversations. The partnership, timed ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10th, offered men a complimentary trim, encouraging them to get a head start on their Movember look.

Pringles Brand Ambassador Paul McGrath said: I’m honoured to partner with Pringles for this campaign. Mental well-being is something I truly understand the value of and I believe this partnership between Pringles and Movember can make a real difference. By putting these important resources directly into people’s hands, literally on Pringles tubes, we can encourage men to start talking and supporting each other. The event at Sam’s Barbers is a fantastic way to bring people together and create a comfortable space for those conversations to happen.”

Ann Rose Eng, Senior Brand Activation Manager Pringles Ireland said: “We’re thrilled to have a legend like Paul McGrath with us this Movember. Paul recognises the importance of being open and honest about mental health and with Paul involved in the campaign we hope it can encourage more men to open up about their own mental health. We believe that even a simple conversation can make a world of difference, and by leveraging the power of our brand and Paul’s influence, we hope to inspire men to prioritise their mental well-being and seek the support they need.”

Aisling Quigley, Marketing & Communications Manager, Movember said: “Movember is proud to team up with Pringles again, their support is helping us spark vital conversations about men’s mental health across Ireland. We’re delighted to have Paul McGrath, a true legend on and off the pitch, backing the cause. Together, we can make this Movember the most impactful yet, breaking down stigmas and empowering Irish lads to look after their mental and physical health.”

Movember is a global movement that raises awareness and funds for men’s health issues. Started in Australia in 2003, the annual campaign, held each November, encourages participants to grow a moustache, engage in fundraising events, or make donations to support the causes related to men’s health like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.

This year's campaign builds on Pringles' ongoing commitment to supporting Movember, a partnership that began in 2020 for which Pringles has helped raise over €1M across Europe to help fund Movember’s vital mental health work.
